Google maps is key. Zoom out as far as necessary to determine any surprises within a 5km radius that are unlikely noticeable from the street view. Things like factories, sewage treatment plants, large constructions projects etc. Anything that might affect the smell, noise, air quality, safety, appearance or traffic conditions of your neighborhood now or in the future.a
